It is certainly advisable to invest in good whiskeys. But a good whiskey does not have to be expensive at all. This has been proven by two whiskeys of budget-supermarket chain Aldi.

During the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Master 2018, a competition by The Spirits Business magazine, the expert jury awarded Aldi’s whiskeys with no less than two gold medals.
Aldi’s Highland Black 8 Years Old won the gold medal in the category ‘Blended – Aged up to 12 years’. Also the Glen Marnoch Highland Single Malt won a gold medal in the category ‘Single Malt – Highlands & Islands: Standard’.
Consider that you can buy these gold medal winners for only EUR 14.40 (Highland Black 8 Years Old) and EUR 19.- (Highland Single Malt) per bottle at your local supermarket.
Moral of the story: a good whisky doesn’t have to be expensive! And I’m really looking forward to drink a dram of these two. Unfortunately the bottles are only for sale in the UK and Germany, where supermarkets are allowed to sell spirits….
