Glenturret Distillery in Perthshire has a place in the Guiness Book of Records, thanks to the epic mousing abilities of the distillery’s cat, Towser. Towser lived in the stillhouse from 1963 until her death in 1987, and during that time she allegedly accounted for no fewer than 28,899 mice, making her the World Mousing Champion. Towser is undoubtedly an excellent marketing roll for Glenturret, having her very own statue outside the visitor centre.

Towser is not the only distillery cat to have found fame. One day in 1993 a young Kentucky cat from Louisville was inadvertently loaded into a container for shipping along with a consignment of bourbon casks, bound for Keith on Speyside, Scotland. A month later, on Speyside, a noise was heard coming from the container as Seagram workers unloading the casks discovered a very weak and extremely drunk cat among the barrels. Appropriately, they named the cat Dizzy.
